Many people regard admitting mistakes as humiliating. A saying goes like this:"To admit that you are wrong is to claim that you are wiser now than before." Personally, I think this saying is very enlightening. To admit one's mistake is definitely not a shameful thing.
In our family and social life, making mistakes is often unavoidable. No matter how insignificant or serious a mistake may be, the right thing that you should do is to admit it and then fix it. This process provides you with an opportunity to learn and grow. In addition, by admitting your mistakes, you can earn others' respect and trust, because when you do this, your honesty, rather than your fault, prevails. On the contrary, if you try to cover your mistakes or even deny them, you probably will lose others' trust and sympathy, for they may regard you as a dishonest person who can't shoulder responsibilities.
You can avoid too many mistakes by taking the following measures. Firstly, you should form the habit of checking the work you have done. Secondly, it is recommended that you consult some experienced people to seek their advice. Thirdly, you can take notes of the mistakes that you have made and review them from time to time. In a word, to admit that you are wrong is the first step to become a better self.
Everybody is distinctive from others. Just as the saying goes, "Trying to be someone else is a waste of the person you are. " So we don't need to live in others' shadows of success at all.
But people often make comparisons between you and a perfect model in their minds when you are good at something. For instance, if you show some aptitude in the field of basketball, normally, others may say that a new Yao Ming has come into shape. I think this phenomenon could make dozens of geniuses perish, because everybody wants to be remembered as who they really are. I'm not saying we shouldn't follow the pioneers, but we should do this in a more creative way, and absorb all the essential experience and try to be ourselves. Similarities will only make you mediocre.
So be yourself and don't waste what God has given you. From now on, we are who we are, not anybody else. We should hold the faith that being ourselves is the best way to achieve any big accomplishment.
The Holy Bible has it that everybody was born equally, and we shouldn’t judge a person by his physical appearance. Just as the saying goes, “Saying someone is ugly doesn’t make you any prettier.”
In reality, there are often some people who like to sneer at others’ appearance. However, our destiny doesn’t depend on our appearance, but on other significant factors like diligence, perseverance, etc. Abraham Lincoln does not have a handsome appearance. Stephen Hawking does not have a good look either. But their greatness is not undermined because of this.
What we can learn is that we should never look down upon any humble individual. Personally, I will never do that because the value of a person is not decided by his or her appearance. If we treat everyone kindly, we will get the proper respect from others too. In this way, we can turn this world into a more harmonious one.
Life itself consists of a series of challenges, whether large or small, when faced with these challenges, we should knock them back with the attitude that," You cannot change what you refuse to confront."
Thomas Edison is a good case in point to illustrate the importance of facing challenges with perseverance. He had done a lot of experiments before the first long-lasting light bulb came into being. Among those experiments, there were thousands times of failure. If he had chosen to give up, he wouldn't have brought so many revolutionary inventions to the world. His life is the best evidence to prove that accepting challenges and triumphing over difficulties are what life is all about.
As for myself, I still remember the first time I learned to ride a bicycle when I was eight. My father kept his hands on the back of the bicycle to help me. I often fell to the ground when he let it go. It was painful but after I tried again and again I finally made it. Life resembles the process of mountain climbing. People who avoid challenges and take the easy route will gradually descend into the valleys. So we need to keep on climbing despite the twists and turns, until we eventually conquer the highest mountain and see the most beautiful view.
